Sisters Sanderson are back in action! A sequel to Hocus Pocus from Disney+ takes place in Salem some 30 years after the first film’s release. The first movie, which cost Disney about $16.5 million, was first seen as a box office dud. But over time, Hocus Pocus has developed a cult following, and its sales and streaming figures soar every October. The sequel to Hocus Pocus will be directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal), with a screenplay written by Jen D’Angelo (Workaholics). Originally slated to direct, Adam Shankman (Enchanted) had to withdraw due to his involvement with the Enchanted sequel, Disenchanted.
Along with Steven Haft (Hocus Pocus), Lynn Harris (The 5th Wave), and David Kirschner, who authored the script for the film, he continued to serve as a producer. John Debner, the same musician who provided the soundtrack for the first film and will do it again for the follow-up, is also coming back. With many of the original cast and crew members on board, it was revealed in October 2019 that the film was in development and would start shooting in October 2021. Just three months later, in early 2022, filming came to a close. However, because of negative feedback from test screenings of the ending, it was decided to reshoot several scenes in June 2022. This article will provide all the information you need about Hocus Pocus 2 and remind you that fall is just around the corner, so grab your pumpkin-spiced lattes and scented candles.
Hocus Pocus 2 Release date
Beginning on September 30, 2022, Disney+ will be the only streaming platform where you can watch Hocus Pocus 2. Even though summer has just started, it can be challenging to picture colder weather, crunchy leaves underfoot, and the Sanderson sisters making their way through Salem’s downtown. Still, for those who have Halloween in their hearts, September 30 can’t arrive fast enough.
The cast of Hocus Pocus 2
The roles of Winnifred, Mary, and Sarah Sanderson, played by Bette Midler (The First Wives Club), Kathy Najimy (Veep), and Sarah Jessica Parker (And Just Like That…), respectively, will all be reprised. In addition, Doug Jones (The Shape of Water) will reprise his role as Winnifred’s zombie-like ex-boyfriend Billy Butcherson from the original cast.
In addition to Home Before Dark and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Whitney Peak, who plays the protagonist character Becca, has experience with unsettling situations. Izzy, Becca’s best friend, will be portrayed by American Horror Stories veteran Belissa Escobedo. In contrast, Cassie, their friend, will be represented by Lillia Buckingham, well known for her performance in Crown Lake.
Sam Richardson, a former Veep cast member, will portray Gilbert, the proprietor of “The Olde Salem Magic Shoppe,” while Tony Hale will play Jefry Traske, the mayor of Salem, in the new show. The Hocus Pocus 2 cast has a unique and exciting figure only as “The Witch.” This intriguing new figure will be by Hannah Waddingham, best known for her appearances in Sex Education and Ted Lasso.
Due to scheduling issues with the impending Wednesday Netflix release, Thora Birch, who portrayed Dani Dennison in the first Hocus Pocus, has already indicated she regretfully won’t be appearing in the sequel. It’s still unknown if Omri Katz, who portrayed Max, Dani’s older brother, and Vanessa Shaw, who described Allison, Max’s crush, will return for Hocus Pocus 2. In addition, neither Jason Marsden, who voiced the cat version of Thackery Binx, nor Sean Murray, who played the human counterpart, will appear in the follow-up. The black cat from the trailer may or may not speak, and if so, who will voice it?
A sequence where the Sanderson sisters run across drag queen versions of themselves is to be in it. At some time, RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants Ginger Minj, Jeté, and Kahmora Hall will emerge and perform a fantastic impersonation of the Sanderson sisters.
The plot of Hocus Pocus 2
The Sanderson Sisters were turning to dust when we last saw them, almost as if Thanos had snapped his fingers in 1993 as the sun rose over the horizon. The famed book, however, opened its eye once more as the film came to a close, suggesting that they might someday return. Twenty-nine years after the events of Hocus Pocus, Becca (Whitney Peak), Cassie (Lilia Buckingham), and Izzy (Belissa Escobedo), three high school friends, unintentionally call the Sanderson sisters on Becca’s 16th birthday while participating in a fun witchy rite. They must work together to find a means to halt the sisters permanently.
