After cancelling gigs this week, American singer Justin Beiber stated that he had partial facial paralysis. In an Instagram video, the 28-year-old pop artist said that he has been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, which is the source of his illness.
Justin has revealed that he will be taking time off from work to heal. He apologised to his followers and explained that his condition is “very serious,” which is why some of his recent gigs have been cancelled.
“As you can see, this eye isn’t blinking, I can’t smile on this side of my face, and this nostril won’t move,” Justin said in the video. “So, for people who are irritated by my cancellations of the upcoming gigs, I’m just physically incapable of doing them; as you can see, this is a really serious situation.” His Justice World Tour, which began in February, revealed earlier this week that three gigs will be rescheduled.
“It’s from this virus that targets the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and causes my face to be paralysed”
The musician, who was born in Canada, said in the three-minute video, pointing to the right side of his face. He also pleaded for patience from his followers and stated that he is “physically, obviously, not capable of doing” his next gigs.
He also smiled and blinked, demonstrating to his 240 million Twitter followers that the right side of his face remained motionless.
Beiber has started practising facial exercises to help him recover, but he is unsure how long it will take.
Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a rare neurological condition that causes facial nerve paralysis and an ear or mouth rash.
Moreover he has cancelled the shows in Toronto, Washington, DC, and New York, which are part of his 130-city Justice World tour in North America. Following his diagnosis of Covid-19, he had to cancel a few shows. Covid-19 was also discovered in his wife, Hailey Beiber.
A blood clot in Hailey’s brain caused her to have a stroke recently. She went on her YouTube channel after her recuperation to inform viewers about her condition and the potential consequences.
Justice, Bieber’s most recent album, came out in March 2021. In the United States and the United Kingdom, the album debuted at the top of the charts.
