PM Narendra Modi releases Rs 125 coin in memory of THIS famous personality!

On September 1st, Wednesday, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a special memorial coin of Rs 125 in memory of none other than the founder of the Hare Krishna movement, Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. This initiative was taken to mark the 125th birth anniversary of the founder. This release was done through a video conference. On this occasion, G Kishan Reddy, the Minister of Union Culture was also present. The International Society for Krishna Consciousness, famously known as ISKON, was founded by Swami Prabhupada, who led this Hare Krishna movement. Prime Minister Narendra Modi invoked the feelings of millions of followers of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and also crores of Krishna devotees. 

ISKON has helped a lot to spread Vedic literature across the world. They have managed to translate Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta and also other Vedic literature in around 89 languages, which also helps to be understandable by all, and thus spreading the importance of Vedic literature. Swami Prabhupada has also established hundreds of temples and in addition to this, he has also written many books, which helps to spread more about Bhakti Yoga. Swami Prabhupada died due to an illness that lasted for six months in Vrindavan in Uttarpradesh at the age of 82 in 1977.

According to the sources of ANI, talking about the release of this memorable coin, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said in Hindi that, ” Today we are celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of Swami Prabhupada. It is as if the joy of meditation/ devotion and contentment have come together. Millions of followers of Srila Prabhupada Swami and Krishna devotees are experiencing this feeling today all over the world.”

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi was releasing this commemorative coin, he also added, “today there are hundreds of ISKCON temples in different countries around the world and are spreading Indian culture. ISKCON has told the world that for India faith means zeal, enthusiasm, to be in high spirits, and faith in humanity.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi also recalled the dangerous earthquake that happened in Kutch in 2001, and how ISKCON helped and took a step to serve the people. Similarly, whenever due to any calamities, people needed huge help, ISKCON always used to take a fast step and supported the society. ISKCON also helped and supported the people during the tragedy of Uttarakhand or the devastation caused due to the cyclones that occurred in Odisha and Bengal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared in his speech that how Swami Prabhupada’s teaching can be proved as one of the greatest examples of how much India can provide to the world in the interest of humanity, which includes the knowledge of yoga, that can be spread across the world so that everyone can gain knowledge about it. He also added that the world should now be benefitted from the sustainable lifestyle of India and also with the help of science like Ayurveda.

These commemorative coins are released to honor or to pay respect to certain personalities, who left a great impact or even some events. These types of coins have a distinctive design and they also have a reference to the event or the occasion for which they are released. These commemorative coins are also issued to highlight the ancient monuments or any ancient sites, famous historical personalities who left a great impact, fauna and flora, and also about the culture and traditions of a particular country. The first commemorative coin series was released in honor of Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister, and this series of coins was issued in 1964.
