The Essex Serpent is a six-part television series set in 1893 that follows newly-widowed Cora Seaborne (Claire Danes, shown above), who is finally free of an oppressive marriage when her husband dies. Cora relocates from London to the small Essex village of Aldwinter, where she becomes fascinated by a local legend that a supernatural creature is known as the “Essex Serpent” has returned. Cora investigates the myths surrounding this mythological sea dragon, a type of dinosaur that has defied extinction.

The production has also visited Essex with some outdoor scenes shot in Maldon’s Promenade Park Film crews were on hand to transform the neighborhood into something straight out of the 1800s. In the park, large white marquees were also built.
