The Good Nurse : Synopsis, Cast, and Release Date

The enormous true-crime story to have been here on screen may be this one. The most prolific serial killer in history, nurse Charles Cullen (Eddie Redmayne), may have slain 400 victims throughout his 16-year career. Without the heroic efforts of his best friend and fellow nurse Amy Loughren (Jessica Chastain), who was able to persuade him to confess, Cullen would have kept killing. In the unsettling true-crime thriller The Good Nurse, Loughren’s incredible bravery is out clear to us. Loughren is a single mother trying to support her two girls on a nurse’s wage. She also has to conceal her cardiomyopathy from her hospital bosses to keep her work. When investigators ask her for assistance in looking into her close friend Cullen’s strange hospital death, she risks her health and work.

She assumes the heart-stopping job of a spy, remaining perilously near her serial killer friend while she looks into how he is killing people in a hospital keen to maintain its secrets. Her heart is on the verge of stopping. In Charles Graeber’s book The Good Nurse : A True Story of Medicine, Madness, and Murder, which served as the basis for the film, a deeply troubled, wire-tapped Loughren asks herself : “Who is she?” A companion? A spy ?”.

The Good Nurse Release date

On October 19, 2022, The Good Nurse will be made available in theatres; a week later, on October 26, 2022, it will be available on Netflix. Critics hailed Chastain’s portrayal of Loughren as a ticking time bomb and Redmayne’s scary incarnation of Cullen when the film had its debut at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, and director Tobias Lindholm’s dedication to showing not only Cullen’s crimes but also the pernicious practise of hospitals that put profits before the lives of their patients. The cast of The Good Nurse

Two Academy Award winners who won their awards for playing real-life characters are in the lead role. Jessica Chastain, who plays Amy Loughren in The Eyes of Tammy Faye, won her first Oscar for the role of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker. In The Theory of Everything, Eddie Redmayne, who plays Charles Cullen, earned his first Oscar for playing Stephen Hawking.

The good nurse

According to Vanity Fair, Chastain stated that she decided to stick to the facts when writing The Good Nurse because she is not a big fan of exciting true crime. The sensationalization of violence and hostility is seen in many true-crime shows and films, which I believe to be a bit nasty. According to Chastain, she wished to identify someone similar to Amy.

Chastain and Redmayne practised nursing and viewed videos of their real-life counterparts to prepare for their roles. Redmayne collaborated with movement instructor Alexandra Reynolds, with whom he had previously worked on The Theory of Everything, to portray Cullen’s peculiar stance and demeanour. The results show a remarkable shift by all accounts. To depict the courageous nurse whose heart could stop at any time, Chastain reportedly used an earpiece while filming that replicated the sound of a heartbeat. According to reports, she requested a louder volume when her on-screen character was in jeopardy.

Along with the two main characters, Noah Emmerich from The Americans and Nnamdi Asomugha from Sylvie’s Love play, tenacious investigators Tim Braun and Danny Baldwin take the opportunity of hiring Loughren.

The plot of The Good Nurse

According to the official summary :

But assistance is provided when Charlie, a sympathetic and discerning fellow nurse, begins working at her ward. While spending many nights together at the hospital, the two develop a close Amy has a strong sense of commitment and friendship, and for the first time in a long time, she has hope for the future of her and her young girls. The good nurse

At the start and end of the trailer, Loughren runs across her fellow serial killer friend Cullen in a cafe. She looks composed and kind while pressuring him to confess to the killings. I don’t want to talk about work, the undercover Cullen responds. Is it because what they’re saying is true, Loughren queries? The conversation is excruciating because of how bad the issue seems to be in the teaser. Loughren and Cullen are so close that he freely visits Loughren’s home and her young daughters. Cullen is Loughren’s compassionate and supportive friend. Loughren is a single mother who can hardly afford to pay her babysitter. When the hospital administrator introduces her to detectives Tim Braun (Noah Emmerich) and Danny Baldwin, her already complicated life becomes terrifying (Nnamdi Asomugha).

They inform her of Cullen’s participation in a patient’s suspicious death. Loughren quickly realises he is poisoning the saline containers with lethal insulin doses. From that point on, Loughren plays the role of the stressed-out cat in a game of cat and mouse with the exceedingly intelligent and silent mouse. He has allegedly been killing individuals without ever touching them, according to Detective Baldwin. His new employment will begin, and business will continue as usual. It becomes apparent that Loughren is the only one who can help authorities catch Cullen because the hospital won’t provide them with the evidence they need. Loughren responds incredulously, “The hospital would have done something.” You would assume so, the investigator responds in a threatening tone.
