What murders people while rationalising his misdeeds in his mind, has two eyes, and dons a face cap? You guessed it—Joe, it’s Goldberg, who has relocated abroad to carry on with his favourite activity in a new season of You.
You are a psychological thriller series that follows the life of Joe Goldberg and is based on the books of Caroline Kepnes (Penn Badgley). In the first season, Joe works as a bookstore manager in New York when he meets and falls in love with Guinevere Beck, a budding author (Elizabeth Lail). Because of his obsession, Joe stalks Beck and kills multiple people to get rid of everyone who comes in the way of their romance.
In Season 2, Joe flees his crimes by moving to Los Angeles and adopting the alias Will Bettelheim. To make his relationship with Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti), a chef he meets there, work, he falls back into his old pattern of obsession and murder. But Joe quickly discovers that Love has a terrible side. By the third season, Joe and Love had tied the knot and relocated to the Madre Linda suburb of California with their baby Henry to raise him and get away with their misdeeds from the previous season. However, Love goes to great lengths to save her ideal family when Joe reverts to his old habits and fixates on his next-door neighbour Natalie and the local librarian Marienne. It was initially stated that Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble were creating and writing a television series based on Caroline Kepnes’ book in February 2015.
The show was previously proposed by Berlanti and Gamble to Showtime and Netflix but was not out. The show was bought by Lifetime, announced in January 2017, and it is a 10-episode straight-to-series order by April. Before the show’s debut in July 2018, Lifetime announced its renewal for a second season. However, it was out in December 2018 that Netflix had acquired the series before its second season and that Lifetime had cancelled its renewal of the series. The second season of You debuted on Netflix and was warmly appreciated there. It was later revealed that You was among the most-watched Netflix programmes of 2019.
The programme was having a third season order by Netflix in January 2020 and will premiere on October 15, 2021. Netflix declared that it had renewed the programme for a fourth season before the show’s third season even started. You’s fourth season was in London from March 21 through August 27, 2022. Produced by Warner Horizon Television, currently known as Warner Bros. Television, You is a joint effort between Berlanti Productions, Alloy Entertainment, and A+E Studios. The programme has received nominations for several honours, including the MTV Movie & TV Awards for Best Villain and the Saturn Award for Best Streaming Horror & Thriller Series. The cast of You Season 4
As Joe Goldberg (or “Professor Johnathan Moore”), Penn Badgley will make a comeback. For her role as Dan Humphery in the teen drama Gossip Girl, Badgley is most recognised. Along with appearing in television shows like The Mountain and The Bedford Diaries, he has also appeared in films including The Stepfather and Easy A. Tati Gabrielle will come back to play Marienne Bellamy again. Marienne managed to flee with her kid at the end of the previous season, but her trip with Joe Goldberg is still ongoing.
Gabrielle is most well-known for her TV acting performances. She played Prudence in the supernatural horror programme Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Gaia in the science fiction drama The 100. Amy-Leigh Hickman, Charlotte Ritchie, Ed Speleers, Tilly Keeper, Niccy Lin, Aidan Cheng, Eve Austin, Ozioma Whenu, and Dario Coates are additional members joining the upcoming season.
Victoria Pedretti is one member we most likely won’t see in the upcoming season. If you recall, Joe and Love engaged in a fight to the death that culminated with Joe stabbing Love fatally with aconite and then setting the home on fire with her inside.
