Why the Prequel to Predator will Be a Different Kind of Film: Prey

A new Predator picture has been released roughly every ten years. However, most fans would undoubtedly concur that the original 1987 movie, which starred everyone’s favourite Austrian Arnold Schwarzenegger, is by far the best. The two Alien vs Predator movies were more comparable to cheap fan service than good cinema; however, Predator 2 and Predators were decent enough. Additionally, audiences and critics felt that 2018’s The Predator was a bit of a misfire because of its convoluted plot, which gave the impression that it was aiming to be a superhero movie rather than a horror-action movie like the original. Despite their variable quality, it appears reasonable to argue that no other film has succeeded in reproducing the original’s suspense and entertainment appeal.

The series may need to hear the term “original,” and it appears like the smartly named Prey will finally provide the franchise with a breath of fresh air. The forthcoming movie is being marketed as a prequel that picks up many years before the events of the original one and tells the tale of the first Predator species visitor to Earth. Prey has been kept a closely-guarded secret as per director Dan Trachtenberg’s request, but information about the movie has gradually started making its way into the headlines. Below is all we currently know about Prey.

Prey Release date

On August 5, 2022, the first hunt will start in earnest, and it will be the first feature film in the franchise’s history to be entirely ready. Even though Disney is now the parent company of the Predator franchise, the human skinning and skull removal are perhaps too graphic for the kid-friendly Disney+. Prey will now reside on Hulu, a more adult-oriented service owned by Disney and Fox.

The cast of Prey

Amber Midthunder, best known for her role as Kerry Loudermilk in Legion, is the star of the cast in the leading role of Naru. Dakota Beavers, Dane DiLiegro, Stefany Mathias, and Stormee Kipp also appear with her in the ostensibly modest cast.

Fans may have noticed that most of the cast is of Native American heritage; this was probably to reflect the Comanche characters in the location as truthfully as possible. According to the trailer’s description, producer Jhane Myers, a Comanche Nation member, is primarily responsible for the roles being cast appropriately. The film’s depiction of the real-life culture won’t be ready until it is out. Still, so far, all the indications are positive, and the movie will hopefully introduce cherished characters from a community that deserves much greater representation in the world of film.

Prey will, incidentally, be the first full-length movie ever to stream. Prey is still by the studio formerly famous as Fox, despite a recent conflict between the creators of the original Predator movie and the 20th Century’s new parent company, Walt Disney (and yes, the idea that Mickey Mouse now owns Predator will never stop being weird). Dan Trachtenberg, best for his work on the highly famous film 10 Cloverfield Lane, is in the director’s chair as previously out.

Prey will be Trachtenberg’s first feature picture in six years, even though he has since worked on significant television projects like Black Mirror and The Boys. The blockbuster surprise sequel was his feature directorial debut and helped establish him as a filmmaker to observe. Following the movie’s premise leak, Trachtenberg was saying that he was “unfortunate that what we had in store for how you could discover this movie will no longer happen”.

The plot of Prey

Prey transforms the Predator IP into a story set in a time three hundred years in the past. So, long before the first movie’s events. The story follows a teenage Comanche hunter named Naru as she hunts down a mysterious enemy. It is endangering her people in pre-colonial America.

Naru has no idea that the threat is a Yautja, a brilliant and technologically advanced alien known to the general public as a Predator. So, it is which hunts the most dangerous creatures in the galaxy for entertainment. In addition, producer John Davis had revealed. So, that this marks the first instance in which the fabled species had declared Earth its hunting area. So, roughly three millennia before one such Predator engaged in combat with a disorganised squad of soldiers in Central America.

Trailer

In May 2022, we got our first look inside the extraordinary world of Prey. The brief 40-second teaser essentially shows a young Native American woman running from a forest. It is before she meets a fellow Comanche who instructs her to take cover. Before that recognisable three-dotted reticle emerges on one of their heads, the two stare into the deserted woods. After then, the main character Naru and an invisible Yautja engage in a heated confrontation, as seen in the teaser. The end of that. The movie’s full-length trailer, which debuted in June 2022, contains much more information and even gives viewers a glance at the Predator.
