The wait for Derry Girls season 3 is almost over, but Erin, Michelle, Orla, Claire, and the little English guy will soon be back for one final piece of mischief. “Derry Girls is a coming-of-age story following five ridiculous teenagers as they slowly… very slowly… start to become adults, while around them the place they call home starts to change too and Northern Ireland enters a new, more hopeful phase—which was a small, magical window of time,” the show’s creator, Lisa McGee, wrote via Twitter in September 2021.
“Derry Girls is a love letter to the community where I was raised and the people who helped mould me. I will always be proud of everything it has accomplished, and it has been an honour to write it.
Who knows if Erin, Clare, Orla, Michelle, and James will return in some other guide someday, but for now this is it for us and we’re delighted to start filming this series with our wonderful cast and crew to hopefully take our devoted fans on one last journey,” she said in her closing statement.
The story of a group of friends named Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), Michelle (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell), Orla (Louisa Harland), Claire (Nicola Coughlan), and James (Dylan Llewellyn) as they navigate the treacherous situations of political unrest and adulthood is told in Derry Girls, which is set in Northern Ireland during the Troubles of the 1990s.

Why Was Season 3’s Production So Protracted?
The cast and crew of Derry Girls recognised how crucial it was to shoot on location in Londonderry, therefore they had to wait a bit longer than anticipated to release additional episodes once filming was halted because to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Coughlan stated in January 2021, “We’re still waiting because it’s essential to the show that we film in Derry. Since McGee drew inspiration from her own upbringing in Northern Ireland, it was crucial to her that the programme explore the effects that the characters’ exposure to so many years of political turbulence had on them.
