Slow Horses is a six-part British spy thriller that will premiere on Apple TV+ in April, starring Academy Award winner Gary Oldman. It’s based on novelist Mick Herron’s Slough House espionage fiction series.
Slow Horses depicts a group of M15 intelligence operatives who have all fouled up their careers and have been assigned to Slough House, M15’s dumping ground, to perform paper-pushing chores as a punishment.
Oscar-winner Jackson Lamb, played by Gary Oldman, is their unpleasant employer who expects them to resign out of boredom. Slow Horses, which also stars Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden, Olivia Cooke, and Freddie Fox, finds the spies called back into action when they become involved in a dangerous kidnapping case.
Slow Horses will launch internationally on Apple TV+ on Friday, April 1st, with the first two episodes airing then, followed by one new episode every Friday afterward.
Oldman portrays Jackson Lamb in the six-part series, which is based on Mike Herron’s novel of the same name. He is an MI5 supervisor who has been consigned to administrative purgatory at Slough House, where sub-par agents are sent to pasture.
Apple TV+ has recently published a teaser video for ‘Slow Horses,’ a highly anticipated espionage series starring Gary Oldman and based on Mick Herron’s novel. The six-part series will premiere on Friday, April 1, 2022. The first two episodes will be shown at the debut, followed by a weekly Friday installment. Slow Horses has received a trailer on Apple TV+, allowing us to witness Gary Oldman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Freddie Fox, Olivia Cooke, and Jack Lowden in action.
Slow Horses is set in a run-down office building in London named Slough House. It’s the department where disgruntled MI5 operatives go to see what’s left of their careers. The series follows these slow horses,’ all of whom have committed terrible, career-ending errors.
Jack Lowden (“Small Axe”) also appears as a rookie agent who joins Lamb after botching an assignment. The cynical CEO expects little from his employees, tasked with little more than paper-pushing until they become engaged in a sinister scheme.
River Cartwright (Jack Lowden) is one such blunder, who is unhappy about his failure and resents wasting his time transcribing phone conversations. However, a young guy is kidnapped, and his kidnappers threaten to behead him live on the Internet. River sees an opportunity to redeem himself and jumps in to solve the case, but he soon realizes that nothing is as it appears and everyone has their own motive.
In the film Slow Horses, Jackson Lamb, the repulsive leader of Slough House, is played by Gary Oldman. Gary rose to prominence in 1986 as the Sex Pistols musician Sid Vicious in Sid and Nancy. Since then, he’s portrayed Count Dracula in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Lee Harvey Oswald in JFK, and Sirius Black in the Harry Potter films.
He earned an Academy Award for his performance as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour (2017), although he was previously nominated for his roles in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) and Mank (2020). He has also appeared in films such as The Firm, True Romance, The Fifth Element, and The Dark Knight Trilogy.
Slow Horses features a slew of other notable British names. Diana Taverner, the deputy director of Slough House, is played by Kristin Scott Thomas. Kristin originally captured our hearts as Fiona in Four Weddings and a Funeral, and she has since appeared in The English Patient, The Horse Whisperer, and The Other Boleyn Girl.
River Cartwright is played by rising actor Jack Lowden (Dunkirk, Fighting with My Family, War and Peace), while Spider Webb is played by Freddie Fox (White House Farm). Vanity Fair’s Olivia Cooke plays Sid Baker, and the series also stars Jonathan Pryce, Sophie Okonedo, Rosalind Eleazar, and Dustin Demri-Burns.
See-Saw Films (“Power of the Dog”) is producing the series for Apple, and it is executive produced by Graham Yost and Will Smith (“Veep”), who also adapted Herron’s novel for television. Executive producers include Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Gail Mutrux, and Douglas Urbanski.
