On Monday, the film Eternals premiered in Los Angeles. Following the film’s debut, critics took to Twitter to express their initial reactions.

Though the review embargo has not yet been lifted, critics have taken to Twitter to share their first impressions of the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Eternals, which premiered in Los Angeles on Monday night.

The 26th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Eternals, is directed by Oscar-winning Chinese director Chloé Zhao and introduces a new cast to the superhero universe. Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Kit Harrington, Harish Patel, Don Lee, Barry Keoghan, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Lia McHugh, Kumail Nanjiani, Richard Madden, and Gemma Chan are among those who have appeared.

Erik Davis from Fandango described Eternals as “spectacularly weird and rich” on Twitter. “Marvel’s #Eternals is spectacularly weird and rich, with a new MCU mythology that makes it feel separate from everything else,” he tweeted. The film has a bittersweet feeling, as evidenced by the sunset shots, with a distinct Chloé Zhao touch. It’s quite refreshing. It’s heartfelt and thoughtful.”

We Live Entertainment founder Scott Menzel compared the film to Zack Snyder’s vision for Justice League. “Eternals is Marvel’s answer to Zack Snyder’s Justice League.” A film that performs commendably by depending on a cast of foreign characters. The direction by Chloé Zhao is excellent. Easily one of the most visually appealing Marvel films of all time. “There are also insane post-credits scenes,” he added.

“#Eternals, wow!” said Aaron Couch of The Hollywood Reporter. There’s a lot to unpack. If Marvel flicks are a Venn diagram — changes within that overlap — this one is off the charts. “By far the most diverse of any of their films.”

Brandon Davis of Comicbook.com tweeted, “#Eternals is many movies.” It’s shot with a huge scope, and it looks visually different (and more intimate) than anything else Marvel has done. Go with the massive, crowded story it unpacks; it has laughs, great surprises, and a heart. Chloé Zhao has a truly one-of-a-kind visual signature.”

In India, Eternals is set to be released on November 5, the day after Diwali. The film will be the second Marvel film to be released in India following the pandemic outbreak.
