Release Information & Wiki for Avatar 2 (2020): Storyline & Cast

In 2009, James Cameron stunned viewers with Avatar, a narrative that is both visually gorgeous and ecologically conscious. In the somewhat distant future depicted in the film Avatar, people from Earth had established a mining operation on the planet Pandora and ruined the lives of the Na’vi, the humanoid inhabitants of that world. Humans have developed a “Avatar,” which is a Na’vi body controlled by a human consciousness implanted electronically, in an effort to communicate with the Na’vi.

Cameron pioneered the use of motion-capture animation in cinema, developed a fully functional Na’vi language in collaboration with linguists, and created his own specialised camera for recording actors’ facial expressions. Avatar’s visual effects were very revolutionary at the time, and it also set numerous box office records. Cameron agreed to make four additional Avatar movies after the enormously popular first one. Everything we currently know about Avatar: The Way of Water, the franchise’s upcoming film, is included below.

Avatar: The Way of Water  Release date

The long-awaited sequel to the Avatar film series will be released in theatres on December 16, 2022. When the first two sequels were first announced in 2010, a 2014 release date was anticipated. Eight theatrical release dates were postponed due to the film’s demands over a long period of time; the most recent was announced in June 2020, which resulted in the current 2022 release date.

The third episode will be released in December 2024, followed by the fourth in December 2026, and the last episode in December 2028.

The cast of  Avatar: The Way of Water

Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Matt Gerald, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Dileep Rao, and Giovanni Ribisi are just a few of the performers who are back from the original movie in Avatar: The Way of Water. Also appearing in some capacity in Avatar: The Way of Water will be Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang. (Spoiler alert: in Avatar, they, uh, died.) Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Oona Chaplin, and Vin Diesel are among the cast’s exciting new additions. We are introduced to a new tribe on the planet, the Metkayina reef-dwellers, as a large portion of Avatar: The Way of Water takes place among the underwater reefs of Pandora.

Rona, a free-diver and member of the Metkayina tribe, is portrayed by Kate Winslet, and Tonowari, the Metkayina leader, is portrayed by Cliff Curtis.

Edie Falco, who plays General Ardmore, the person in charge of protecting the mining interests, Jemaine Clement, who plays Dr. Ian Garvin, a marine biologist, Michelle Yeoh, who plays Dr. Karina Mogue, and Oona Chaplin, who plays a character named Varang make up the human side of the new character group.

Unfortunately, we still don’t know Vin Diesel’s exact role in Avatar: The Way of Water, but we can’t wait to find out.

The plot of  Avatar: The Way of Water

While much of the specifics of Avatar: The Way of Water are still a mystery, we do know that it takes place on Pandora some 12 years after the first film. Since deciding to permanently enter his Avatar body and take on the role of the new Na’vi leader, Jake Sully (Worthington) has been residing on Pandora for a considerable amount of time. Since then, he and Neytiri (Saldana), a local Na’vi, have begun a family and had their own children. In a resurgence of their original objectives, the RDA’s colonial forces and mining operations have returned to Pandora, forcing Jake and Neytiri to take their family and leave their home. Lang is expected to return as Colonel Miles Quaritch in this and subsequent Avatar films, though it’s unknown exactly how he will play the character.

The Metkayina people will be presented to us in Avatar: The Way of Water, which will explore the uncharted regions of Pandora and place a strong emphasis on the planet’s aquatic life. The Metkayina, a clan of people from Pandora who reside amid the ocean’s reefs, form the second movie’s main social group.

Trailer

Beginning on May 5, 2022, the official trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water made its debut exclusively in theatres before screenings of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness from Marvel Studios. The trailer was released online by the official Avatar YouTube channel the following Monday, May 9. The video surpassed all of the new Star Wars movie trailers with 148.6 million views in its first day, setting new milestones for Disney. Therefore, it would be absurd to assume that Avatar is no longer relevant. Jake Sully and Neytiri, as well as some breathtaking visual effects work exploring the aquatic scenery on the planet of Pandora, are all featured in the trailer, demonstrating that James Cameron hasn’t lost a step in the 13 years since the original movie.
