Snapchat introduced a new tool in its app called Run for office, specifically designed for young people with political aspirations.

The tool has been made to help them learn what steps they need to follow to run in local elections.

The political resource site Ballot Ready supports the new tool of Snapchat that aims to help young users to explore political opportunities in their locality, as stated by the company blog.

Users will be able to see what positions are available for them in the local neighbourhood. From council to the school committee to city neighbourhood committee to country representatives as stated by the company.

The tool has a portal that assists over 75000 upcoming elections at both state and federal levels that users can take part in.

The users can access the Run for office tool by swiping down over the camera to bring Snapchat’s in-app games.

Users can first identify the topic they most care about or are passionate about and then look for similar positions in the new tool. The Run for office also provides access to several training programs such as Women’s public leadership network, vote run lead, Emerge America, LGBTQ victory and many more and recruiting organisations for aspiring politicians to take the first step.

The company’s policy partnership head announced its launch and impact in a tweet saying, ” we are launching a tool to help snap chatters in their civic Journey. We hope to help Snapchatter to recognise that no matter who they are and where they come from, they can make a difference in the community.”

Snapchat stated in the release, ” they have reached 90% of people between the age of 13 and 24 in the U.S. Therefore, the new tool can play a role in telling the population about upcoming races.”

Further, in their release, they said,” We hope our new tool will help shape more equitable, reflective and democracy”.

The new tool has a special feature for its users, ” My campaign dashboard”, that allows them to see the first step they need to follow to get on ballet.”  Users can use stickers to start their campaigns on snap chat. They also provide personalised features where they tell users about the next step they need to follow in their Journey.

The Run for office also allows users to nominate others to the new tool and candidacy. As per Snapchat, the feature is inspired by the users who think or claim their friends and near ones are more influential with voting decisions than celebrities. If you know someone who matches the description, encourage them to participate in upcoming races.
