Cocaine Bear: The True Story That Inspired Elizabeth Banks’ Film

The upcoming American thriller Cocaine Bear was written by Jimmy Warden and produced and directed by Elizabeth Banks. Along with Keri Russell, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Ray Liotta, Alden Ehrenreich, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Kristofer Hivju, Margo Martindale, Christian Convery, Brooklynn Prince, and Scott Seiss, it also features Jesse Tyler Ferguson. It is based on the actual incident of an American black bear who, in 1985, ate a duffel bag worth of cocaine. It will be one of his final films and the first to be released following his passing in May 2022. The accurate tale behind the upcoming film Cocaine Bear, which Elizabeth Banks will direct and Phil Lord and Chris Miller will serve as producers, is weirder than fiction. The last time Banks, Lord, and Miller collaborated, they explored the world of Legos. They are now working together on a tale on cocaine. Here is what we currently know.

They have previously collaborated on the fantasy and reality-blending The Lego Movie series. The Lego universe and a real-world family were alternated in the films. The tale of Cocaine Bear is so bizarre that it could easily pass for fiction, yet it isn’t. In Cocaine Bear, a narcotics trafficker and a bear were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Banks, Lord, and Miller, are the perfect combination to take on this issue based on their combined prior experience. It will be fun with them in charge. Let’s review all we currently know about Cocaine Bear.

Cocaine Bear Release date

It’s too early to predict when Cocaine Bear will hit theatres at the time of writing. Filming for the movie is presently ready to start later. Movie companies have been in an ongoing cycle of postponing and rearranging films on their release dates due to the coronavirus outbreak. The earliest possible release date for Cocaine Bear is mid-to late-2022, but delays brought on by the coronavirus could cause that date to be even further.

The cast of Cocaine Bear

Banks has spent the majority of her career in Hollywood’s acting community. She is best for her hilarious performances in Wet Hot American Summer, the Hunger Games series, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, and Scrubs, among other films and television programmes. Also, she nevertheless has a substantial amount of directing experience. She has already proven she has a taste for the comedy/action genre with her roles in Pitch Perfect 2 and Charlie’s Angels. Audiences can anticipate Cocaine Bear to likely belong to a similar genre, that this is the case and Lord and Miller are well famous for the same genres.

No one is in cast in Cocaine Bear because production is still in its early phases. Both of the full-length movies directed by Elizabeth Banks include the director herself, and she played a tiny part in Charlie’s Angels and a slightly larger one in Pitch Perfect 2. It is conceivable that Banks will appear in Cocaine Bear, possibly in a role that is even more substantial than the one she had in Charlie’s Angels.

The plot of Cocaine Bear

The true story of Andrew Carter Thornton, a former drug enforcement officer, turned cocaine smuggler, served as the inspiration for the film. MuckRock claims that Thornton’s tale coincided with that of a 175-pound black bear who found 75 pounds of cocaine in a duffel bag. That bear overdosed on the cocaine he had consumed and passed away. It turns out that Andrew Thornton, a dishonest drug enforcement official who rose to the top of a global drug trafficking organisation, was the person who dumped the cocaine in the woods. Although he was initially detained in 1981, the police let him free in the hopes that he would help them track down more significant drug traffickers, perhaps even government officials.

However, four years later, he experienced engine difficulty while flying cocaine. He threw as much of it out of the plane’s doors as he could out of fear and then jumped out using a parachute. However, the parachute malfunctioned, and Thornton perished on impact in Knoxville, 50 miles away, with close to 70 pounds of cocaine, tens of thousands of dollars in cash, and three weapons. Near that bear, Thornton’s body was along with a bag of cocaine. Cocaine Bear will unavoidably use some imagination in piecing the puzzle together. Still, it will probably detail how Thornton went from being a police officer dead in a jungle with a bag of cocaine. As more information on Banks’ future films becomes available, we’ll keep updating this article.
