Here is all the info you need to read on “The Northman”

Robert Eggers has swiftly established himself as one of the most important must-see directors in the industry. With only two films under his belt, his work is already well-known. For its distinctive style, plot, and visual, his directorial debut film The Witch received tremendous accolades from reviewers and a 90 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Lighthouse, his 2019 follow-up, received the same rating. Both films were produced by A24, an independent production firm that rose to prominence in the 2010s for its marketing prowess and backing of artists’ artistic expressions.

Following the success of The Witch and The Lighthouse, filmmaker Robert Eggers is working on his third film, the epic Viking action saga The Northman. The Northman, with the critical accolades that Eggers has garnered thus far in his career and the ensemble that he has collected, is one of the most intriguing new films set to hit cinemas in 2022.

Everything you need to know about The Northman is right here.

Trailer for “The Northman”

The first trailer for The Northman has arrived, and it appears to be a capital “R” Revenge film. The teaser depicts yet another exquisitely detailed universe built by Egger, this time loaded with promises of ruthless action rather than terror.

The storyline and the plot of “The Northman”

Prepare for a brutal story of vengeance in The Northman, according to the official plot synopsis: “The Northman” is an action-packed epic directed by visionary director Robert Eggers that depicts a young Viking prince on his journey to revenge his father’s death.

From the trailer, we can deduce a little more information (see below). When the Viking prince (Amleth) was a youngster, his own brother murdered the monarch. Now that he is an adult, he must embark on a perilous journey back home to exact his revenge on his uncle.

The cast of “The Northman”

The cast of The Northman is led by a real Nordic, as a hulking Alexander plays the adult Amleth, the Viking Prince. Skarsgrd most recently appeared as a noteworthy guest star on HBO’s Succession. Other highlights include the forthcoming Netflix film Passing, some past action experience with Godzilla vs. Kong and The Legend of Tarzan, and a number of prominent TV performances, including True Blood, The Little Drummer Girl, and Big Little Lies, for which he received an Emmy nomination (and starred alongside Nicole Kidman).

Kidman, who plays Amleth’s mother Queen Gudrun, is one of the film’s two starring women, along with Skarsgard. Of course, Kidman is an Oscar winner who has been in films such as Moulin Rouge!, Aquaman, The Hours, The Undoing, Nine Perfect Strangers, and, most recently, Being the Ricardos.

Anya Taylor-Joy also appears in The Northman as Olga, a woman who assists Amleth as he embarks on his quest of vengeance. Taylor-Joy has a history with Eggers, having appeared in films such as Last Night in Soho and the Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit. Her breakout part in The Witch was her first.

Other notable cast members include Ethan Hawke (Before trilogy, The Good Lord Bird) as King Horwendil, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Lighthouse) as Heimir the Fool, Claes Bang as Fjölnir, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie, Hafór Julius Björnsson (aka The Mountain on Game of Thrones), and actor/musician Björk

Robert Eggers, the filmmaker of “The Northman”

With his first two films, The Witch and The Lighthouse, Robert Eggers immediately established himself as one of Hollywood’s most exciting new directors. The Witch was a 17th-century horror film that told a simple but terrifying plot, whereas The Lighthouse is a 19th-century psychological thriller starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe.

With The Northman, Eggers returns to these fanciful time periods. He’s foregoing the horror this time in favor of a big, bloody action film, though he’ll undoubtedly incorporate the dark, spiritual elements that were a hallmark of his early work.
