Welcome to Wrexham OTT. Release Information, Cast, and Story

What are the requirements for owning and managing a football (not American football) team? Two former actors who are now business owners are passionate about the beautiful game. And if there is anything else, Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney, and the audience are about to find out in the new Welcome to Wrexham F.X. docuseries. The newest sports documentary series, produced by Boardwalk Pictures and Reynolds’ production company, Maximum Effort, follows the history of Wrexham A.F.C., the oldest Welsh football club since the actors bought them in 2020. Reynolds and McElhenney play a real-life soccer club while channelling Ted Lasso.

The first two seasons of the team and its owners’ ownership are chronicled in Welcome to Wrexham. It also investigates how these two well-known Hollywood figures oversee one of the oldest professional soccer clubs. It follows Wrexham Dragons, a historically significant but formerly unsuccessful team in the National League, the fifth division of the English Football League. The working-class residents of Wrexham, a town in northern Wales, and their engagement with the squad and its history are included in the sports documentary together with the team. Here is information about Welcome to Wrexham’s debut date, storyline, trailer, and anything else we know about the documentary series that will air on F.X.

Welcome to Wrexham. Release date

The first two episodes of Welcome to Wrexham will debut jointly on August 25, 2022, on F.X. on Hulu, and on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on F.X.

On August 25, 2022, the series debuts on Disney+ in Ireland and the U.K. Welcome to Wrexham will be on Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ in other regions where Hulu is unavailable. The release dates outside of America have not yet been out.

There are five episodes in all of Welcome to Wrexham, and each lasts for roughly 30 minutes. The first two episodes will be available at the same time, on August 24, the day of the launch. On August 25, Hulu will provide the same two episodes for streaming. Each new episode will after be out every week after that. Two seasons of the television show are ready.

The cast of Welcome to Wrexham

The Wrexham F.C. team is undoubtedly the standout of this series. In addition, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds take the lead in narrating the tale through conversations, encounters, and more. Among many others, the cast includes Wayne Jones, the proprietor of The Turf, the location where the club was first established, Fleur Robinson, the C.E.O. of Wrexham A.F.C., and the neighbourhood indie comedy troupe Declan Swans. The Boardwalk Pictures, Maximum Effort, and F.X. Productions collaboration developed the sports documentary series, which is also executive by Rob McElhenney, Ryan Reynolds, Nick Frenkel, John Henion, Andrew Fried, Dane Lillegard, Jordan Wynn, and Sarina Roma.

The plot of Welcome to Wrexham

After the club changed management in 2020, the filming for Welcome to Wrexham began. It continued with the owners’ first visit to the team for the Wrexham vs Maidenhead United F.C. match in October 2021.

The show chronicles the team’s journey and that of its new owners, as well as the games, development, and everything that has occurred since the team’s change in ownership and how far they have come in the past two years. Most of the drama occurs between 2020 and 2022, although the show also discusses the club’s background and history decades before.

Northeast Wales’ Wrexham is a tiny market town where Wrexham A.F.C. was in 1864. The soccer team’s history dates back more than 200 years and includes many victories and losses, to the point where a winding-up order was issued. Since 2011, a fan-run organisation called the Wrexham Supporters Trust has owned and operated the club. The club and its team had many difficulties in the years that followed. The 2019-2020 National League was suspended because of the COVID-19 epidemic. The team was confronted with severe dangers. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, two celebrities and businessmen, founded the RR McReynolds firm in 2020 and bought Wrexham A.F.C.

Trailer

A teaser and an official full-length trailer for Welcome to Wrexham were accessible in December 2021 and July 2022, respectively. The first 44-second teaser, which features the two stars and a play on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia by McElhenney, is more like a lighthearted short.

However, the official trailer offers you a clearer idea of what the docuseries will cover. The storyline has a distinctly British feel, with the locals discussing the club’s past, their associated feelings, and how it has always played a significant role in their culture. This will inspire a strong sense of dedication and connection among sports fans.

Reynolds and McElhenney discuss their struggles, aspirations, and connections to the Wrexham tale.

It’s not a Hollywood underdog story, even though it could sound or feel like one. It’s heartfelt and genuine. However, as a sports documentary, it will unavoidably make you think of Ted Lasso or Moneyball, but this is extremely real, about real people and their real difficulties. The team has a constant sense of hardship, emphasising their unwavering devotion, which transcends the actual game.
